After years of painting and trying to make a living as an artist, clay is what Victoria turned to as a way to free herself creatively. She discovered the dynamic, tactile medium is imperative to exploring certain concepts. But, in the beginning, it was simply about breathing and accepting failure as a part of the creative process.
Pottery is a collaboration with earth, water, and fire. After making mugs and bowls for her kitchen, Victoria fell in love with making larger more ancient looking vessels. Organically, the Sanctuaries starting coming to life. A coil built and wheel altered vessel, these are functional vases of various shapes with small “sanctuary” alcove cut outs. These small spaces are the perfect spot for small treasures, but their true magic lies in simply holding a safe space.
